Nearly 2 million 100-euro penalties are being dropped in Italy today for those over 50 and various professional groups-including teachers, law enforcement, and health care personnel-who have not been vaccinated.
In fact, the 180-day deadline for justifying failure to comply with the requirement expires today. Friuli, Calabria and Abruzzo are the regions with the highest percentages of over-50s who have not complied with the vaccination requirement. Puglia, Lazio, Tuscany and Molise, on the other hand, are the most virtuous. But the clampdown comes just as the Constitutional Court is preparing to rule on the legality of the requirement and the suspension from work and pay for those who have not complied.
The constitutionality of mandatory vaccination in Italy is among the litigation cases examined by Covid-19 Litigation, the world's first open access database launched by the University of Trento.
The research group in its first year of operation has collected more than 2,000 cases from more than 90 countries of litigation on which the world's courts and tribunals have ruled.
