On 31 August 2023, a court in Singapore condemned to a week of jail time a man who, despite testing positive for COVID-19 in February 2022, did not self-isolate.
According to the results of self-administered tests, the man was positive since 23 February and thus had to self-isolate up to 1 March. However, he regularly went out and took public transport to go to work for six times between 23 February and 1 March 2023. The public prosecutor highlighted that at that time COVID-19 was still a global health emergency. The man admitted he had gone out while infected with COVID-19, thus violating the Infectious Diseases Act. He was sentenced to a week of jail time.
