On 27 April 2023, a district court in Singapore sentenced a foreigner to 16 weeks of prison for having participated in a fraud to obtain fake vaccines against Covid-19.
The defendant, who had obtained a job offer in Australia, needed a vaccine certificate to enter the country but did not want to get vaccinated. Therefore he obtained, thanks to participation in anti-vaccine groups on social media, the contact of a medical practitioner willing to administer fake vaccines for him and his wife (who was unaware of the scheme). The defendant paid 6,000 dollars to the practitioner and a clinic’s assistant who first gave the couple saline solutions instead of vaccines and then produced false vaccination records.
The prosecutor pointed out that the man’s behavior put the general public at risk, directly hindering the application of public health measures.
