Indian policemen

On 22 March 2023, the Delhi High Court directed the state government to submit to the new Group of Ministers an order to compensate the family of a policeman dead of COVID while on duty during the pandemic.

In December 2022, the Court had already asked the government not to delay a decision concerning the compensation, which had previously been announced by the government. At the beginning of March 2023, the state government cabinet underwent a reshuffle. Therefore, the Court ordered that the matter be placed under consideration of the new cabinet.

The next hearing on the case was scheduled for 8 May, with the warning that no further time will be granted for a decision, given that, according to the Court, for the government to refrain from issuing the compensation order is unacceptable.
