On 29 August 2022, the Jerusalem District Court rejected the appeal of a former medical doctor whose license had been revoked by the Health Ministry, following the publication of denigrating articles towards the medical community written by the doctor himself, as well as his public call to violate COVID guidelines issued by the Ministry.
During the pandemic, the doctor openly cast doubts over the existence of the virus and, later on, he also opposed vaccinations. He claimed to operate under the protection of the freedom of expression. The Health Ministry’s Disciplinary Committee originally recommended a two-year suspension of the medical license, but the judge appointed by the Ministry decided for permanent revocation, pointing out the difference between expressing an opinion and conducting defamatory campaigns against the scientific community while encouraging citizens to violate health guidelines.
Upon the revocation, the former doctor filed an appeal, which was however rejected by the Jerusalem District Court.
