On 25 March 2022, the Changhua District Court sentenced an individual to 50 days in prison (suspended for two years) and to a fine of NT$ 20,000 (US$ 698), for having violated a solitary confinement order during hospitalization for contracting COVID-19, at a hospital in Changhua.

By doing so, the patient had violated the Special Act for Prevention, Relief and Revitalization Measures for Severe Pneumonia with Novel Pathogens. This emergency legislation introduced a new type of crime: failure to comply with the instructions provided by health workers and officials, dictated for the containment of the infection. In particular, the accused was sentenced for having left their room twice equipped with a negative pressure ventilation system, violating the prescriptions imposed by health personnel in order to contain the spread of the infection within the hospital, compromising the safety of both medical staff and other patients.
